HERS Mobile speeds up field testing for raters

For the first time, HERS raters can put away their clipboards and start clicking their way through energy-efficiency verifications. That's because CHEERS took the data-collection functionality of the CHEERS Registry and shrunk it down to handheld-size. Now raters can perform their field tests on a PDA — with no time-consuming data entry afterwards.

HERS Mobile™ enables raters to create structures, enter data and conduct retests from the field. It goes step-by-step through the verification process, keeping track of what measures have and haven't been tested, and automatically sending data back to the CHEERS Registry.

CHEERS is the first HERS provider to create a mobile application specifically for raters. After months of R&D and rigorous testing, HERS Mobile is now available to all CHEERS Certified raters.

The most obvious reason is that it will save them time. But it's about more than convenience. We expect a 15 percent increase in home ratings this year, and automation is the key to helping our raters keep up.

Are there any competitive advantages for HERS Mobile users?
Definitely. We're in talks with utilities and other third parties about using HERS Mobile for specific programs. That means the rater who has it will have more money-making opportunities than the rater who doesn't.

How long will it take the average rater to see a return on investment?
The average rater will recoup their initial investment in 3-6 months, since they'll be reducing their administrative costs and winning increased business. CHEERS made a substantial investment in the technology. As a nonprofit, we've priced HERS Mobile as affordably as possible without marking it up.
